Hi there,
Algeria was occupied by the French government until the 60's, so until then the first language was French. The elderly still speak it and some of the younger one's learn it at school but their main languages is Arabic.
The differences between Algerian French and the French spoken in France are similar to the differences between Canadian French and French.
There are slight differences in regards to the pronunciation and the melody of the sentences as well as using some different expressions and words.

I hope that helps.
