Rocket French Community

Hello,

I signed up for the onlne version of Rocket French and can't seem to download the mp3 files correctly. I really need to listed to the french sections over and over, so the mp3 is necessary for me to learn. Every time I try to download I get from 40-90% of the file and then it stops. I've tried IE and Mozilla, and even added a download manager to Mozilla, and they all have the same problem, so the issue must be with the site. How can I download the entire MP3's files for each lesson? So far I've tried over 20 times with my current lesson, each one stops before it finishes, and the site doesn't seem to allow me to resume downloads, so I have to start over each time.

I send this question in via support, but haven't heard anything back.

Please help!

HI there, Brenton here, i have also been trying to download audio files with no luck. The internet connection is good and there is plenty of space on my hard drive, I too have sent a message to the support team with no reply. where else can we ask for assistance? Brent

I'm really sorry to hear that you both have problems with the download.
Do you have very high security settings? A firewall?

Do you click on the big blue button labeled "Download audio".
How fast is your connection?

OK, I found out more about this and I think I know the cause... but maybe not the solution. The problem is that downloads are cut off after 10 minutes.

I did a download test on another site and got around 500 KB/s (kilobytes, not bits) and downloaded a whole gigabyte file with no problem, so I'm pretty sure it's not an issue on my side. I do have a firewall, but it's never been an issue before as it doesn't interfere with outgoing web requests.

One thing I noticed is that with the rocket french site, I only get 5-20 KB/s normally, much slower than I get on some other sites. I also saw that I could download files if the speed was fast enough, if I try late enough at night I've managed to download some entire mp3's. That's not working for the games though... too big.

Here is the symptom I see: after 10 minutes, almost exactly, the download stops. If I managed to get the download in the 10 minutes I'm OK, if not... start over. This 10 minutes is pretty consistent and only happens with the rocket languages site. I've done quite a bit of web programming and I think your php scripts that handles downloads have some sort of timeout mechanism that kicks in after 10 minutes. Either that or there's a setting on your web server to do it.

If anybody else is having issues, can you check for this 10 minute timeout as well?

I checked with our tech team and we don't have a time out mechanism set up.
It seems very odd. Could you please give me some more information on your set up? Which browser do you use, where abouts are you downloading from, what is your normal speed?

10 minutes seems very very long for the audio lessons. They should only take about 1 minute.
If we can't work something out for you we can post you the 2 CD set so you don't need to download the lessons.

I just signed up for the online prem french course and when I try to download it telle me the site is busy or can not be found. I have downloaded before and have never had a problem. Please advise.
